Broadband bonus for regional Tasmania
The historic roll-out of the National Broadband Network (NBN) began with a launch at Cambridge, near Hobart, in July and the nomination of the regional centres of Scottsdale, in Tasmania’s north-east, Smithton in the north-west and Midway Point, near Cambridge, as the first in the nation to enjoy its benefits.Around 5,000 Tasmanian premises will have access to optic fibre broadband at unprecedented speeds of 100 megabits a second in stage one of the rollout, giving the State a window of advantage over the rest of the nation. In addition, high-speed wireless broadband at speeds up to 12 megabits a second will become available to 200,000 homes and businesses in all parts of the State.
